Kid Games to Play - Old Sock
Kid Games to Play - Old SockAll you need to play this game are 8 or more people, an old sock or rag tied up in knots and some open space with marked boundaries. To start the game, everyone gathers in the center and one person throws the sock high into the air. You now have to decide whether you want to stay and try to catch it as it comes down or run away. Whoever catches the sock, quickly throws it and tries to hit someone. The person with the ball can either throw the sock as soon as they get it or take two steps and throw it (no more than two steps allowed.) Those who have the sock thrown at them have two options, dodge the throw or try to catch it. If you are hit, you are out and sit out of bounds for the next game. If you catch the sock the person who threw it is out. Once a thrown sock hits the ground it can be picked up by anyone and thrown again, so be aware. If by rare chance the sock hits one person and bounces up and you catch it before it hits the ground, both the person hit and the person throwing are out. The game should be fast moving so no one is out of the game long. Sometimes the game slows down when only a few people are still left in the game. Narrowing the boundaries solves the problem. The winner throws the sock to start up the next game. This is one of the classic kid games to play. It is for older kids, like 8 and over but adults can join the fun too. If you are planning a school party or youth group activity a gym or big field would work! This game is also great for gathering! As guests are arriving to a party they can join in at any time or at the beginning of the next round. Because this is designed to be a fast moving game people can jump right in! And the kids that are playing won’t tire of it too fast so they can play for a while till everyone is there. This game will get the excitement going right from the start.I played this with a group of young college kids. The rules are very simple! At first I thought of dodge ball in gym class so many years ago. But it wasn’t anything like that. It was fast and fun! Everyone smiling! Because the rounds didn’t last long about 90% of the time we were all running with no one out. If you are playing with younger kids just slow it down a bit and they will still enjoy it. Once this game starts to slow move on quickly to one of many kid games to play that we have on out site! Any great game has it’s limit, don’t exhaust this one and it will become a classic for any family reunion, youth group, friends, birthdays, etc.
